Many Maldivian women already travel for care — most often to India or Sri Lanka. The problems this page is about are the ones that tend to wait longest: a bulge or heaviness, leaking when you cough or rush, discomfort after childbirth, and menopause symptoms. They are rarely dangerous, which is exactly why they get put off. This page sets out what an assessment here involves, how payment works, and when flying is not the right answer.
Mostly symptoms that are neither urgent nor cosmetic: a feeling of something coming down (pelvic organ prolapse), leaking urine when you cough, sneeze or lift, a sudden urge you cannot hold, pelvic floor weakness or scar discomfort after delivery, vaginal dryness and menopause symptoms.
Women often say they mentioned the symptom once, were told it was common after childbirth or with age, and left it there for years. Common is not the same as something you have to live with.
Assessment starts with an examination and a severity assessment before any treatment is discussed, because the treatment for a bulge and the treatment for leaking are not the same even when the two happen together.
Read the prolapse guide →No. Since January 2025 Aasandha has covered treatment in Thailand, but only for patients it refers itself, to its own partner hospitals. The Fit Clinic is not an Aasandha partner, so care here is paid by you.
If your case is one Aasandha would send abroad, ask Aasandha first — that route may cost you nothing. If you have private insurance, ask your insurer before you travel whether outpatient care abroad is covered.
No referral is needed to book here. You contact the clinic directly, and no Thai residency or Thai insurance is required.
Yes — five of the clinic's nine specialists are women, and you can ask for a female doctor when you book. Most women travelling for a pelvic examination ask, and it is a normal request.
Consultations are conducted in English or Thai. If it is easier to describe the symptom in writing before you arrive, send it by WhatsApp or LINE first.
Meet the doctors →Direct flights between Malé and Bangkok take roughly four and a half hours when a direct service is running; many trips connect through Colombo or another hub. Check the current schedule before planning.
An assessment is a single appointment. Some non-surgical treatment can be started on the same trip; whether that suits you is decided at assessment. If urodynamic testing, imaging or a surgical opinion is needed, allow additional days.
Message your symptom and your dates before you book flights and you will be given a realistic range first.
Days needed and what to expect →Surgery is not performed at the clinic. When an operation is the right option, it is done by the specialist who assessed you, at a partner hospital in Bangkok (Praram 9 Hospital or Vimut Hospital).
Much prolapse surgery is done through the vagina, with no abdominal incision, and not every prolapse operation means removing the uterus. Which operation suits you, and how long you would need to stay in Bangkok afterwards, is decided after examination — not before, and not around a return flight.
The pelvic surgery team →If you have red-flag symptoms, be assessed in the Maldives now, not here later. Bleeding after menopause, bleeding after sex, blood in the urine, fever with pelvic pain, heavy bleeding that will not stop, or a new lump all need local assessment immediately. Do not put those on a flight.
It is also the wrong answer if what you need is months of supervised pelvic floor rehabilitation, which works best close to home with someone who can reassess you week by week. Scheduled video follow-up after you return home is not currently offered here.
Find your symptom first →Send the symptom and the dates you could travel. You will be told whether the trip is worth making and roughly how many days it would take, before you book flights.
