Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialised branch of physical therapy delivered by therapists with advanced training in pelvic anatomy. In Europe, North America, and Australia, it is the recommended first-line treatment for urinary leakage, pelvic organ prolapse, painful sex, and chronic pelvic pain — far ahead of medication or surgery in the treatment hierarchy. In Asia it remains underutilised, but that is changing.

The assessment is hands-on and thorough: external and internal palpation to identify which muscles are over-tight, which are weak, and how well they coordinate during everyday movements like coughing or lifting. From there a personalised programme is built — proper Kegel technique (most women perform them incorrectly), manual release of trigger points, breathing coordination, and biofeedback-guided exercises.

It is a course of work rather than a single appointment, and how quickly anything changes differs from person to person. Your therapist reassesses as you go rather than working to a fixed timetable. At THE FIT CLINIC, we work alongside therapists who specialise specifically in pelvic floor rehabilitation. This is not generic core strengthening — it is targeted care that addresses the pelvic floor itself rather than only masking symptoms.
