If your last cervical screening was five, ten or more years ago, you are in good company. Many of the women who come to THE FIT CLINIC have moved between countries, had children, or simply put it off because the test felt awkward. The useful question is not why it was missed but how to restart, and the answer is usually simpler than people expect.
Cervical screening looks for the changes caused by high-risk HPV before they become a problem. Most HPV infections clear by themselves; screening exists to pick up the minority that persist. Because these changes develop slowly, a gap in screening is not a reason to panic, but it is a reason to book rather than wait for the next reminder that may never come.
At the first visit we ask when you were last screened, whether any result was ever abnormal, whether you have been vaccinated, and whether you have any symptoms such as bleeding after sex or between periods. Screening is done with an HPV test, a Pap smear, or both together, depending on your age and history. The sample takes a few minutes, you can ask us to pause at any point, and a female doctor is available if that makes you more comfortable.
Results are usually back within days. A normal result sets your next date. If something is flagged, that is a prompt for the next step, often a closer look called colposcopy, not a diagnosis. Please book sooner rather than later if you have bleeding after sex, bleeding between periods or after menopause, or unusual discharge, whatever your screening history. Consultations are in English or Thai, with a fee of 1,500 to 3,000 baht by complexity plus a 300 baht clinic service fee.
