Endometrial biopsy is one of the most important office procedures in gynecology — the most accurate way to evaluate the uterine lining for abnormal cells or early cancer. It is particularly essential for postmenopausal bleeding (where the diagnostic yield is highest) and for unexplained abnormal bleeding in women over 45.
The procedure itself: performed in clinic, no hospital admission needed. A thin pliable device is passed through the cervix to gently aspirate a small tissue sample from the uterine lining. The full procedure takes 5–10 minutes. Most women experience cramping similar to a strong menstrual cramp lasting a few minutes; taking ibuprofen 30–60 minutes beforehand helps significantly. Results return in 5–10 days.
Ask whether you need to be seen
Message us with what you are experiencing and we will tell you whether an examination is worth making, and what the appointment involves.
WhatsAppLINEWho should have one: any postmenopausal bleeding (always); abnormal bleeding patterns in women over 45; ultrasound finding of thickened endometrium beyond expected; and women with risk factors for endometrial cancer including obesity, diabetes, tamoxifen use, or Lynch syndrome family history. At THE FIT CLINIC we use comfort-focused technique and clear communication throughout. While anticipation can be uncomfortable, the test itself is brief — and in cases where it detects early changes, it can be lifesaving.
