Most sexually transmitted infections cause no symptoms in their early stages — particularly in women — so absence of symptoms is not absence of infection. Untreated STIs can progress silently to pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, or increased cervical cancer risk. Periodic screening is among the highest-yield, lowest-effort preventive measures sexually active women can take.
General screening recommendations for sexually active women: chlamydia and gonorrhea annually if under 25 or with new partners; HIV at least once in adult life, more often with risk factors; syphilis based on risk; HPV alongside cervical screening; hepatitis B and C status check at least once. The exact combination depends on personal history — and that conversation should feel safe, not interrogative.
Ask whether you need to be seen
Message us with what you are experiencing and we will tell you whether an examination is worth making, and what the appointment involves.
WhatsAppLINEAt THE FIT CLINIC, STI screening is offered in a private, non-judgmental setting. Most tests use blood, urine, or swab samples; results return in 2–7 days. If an infection is found, we provide treatment, partner-notification guidance, and follow-up testing. We test for what is relevant to you — not a one-size-fits-all panel — and we keep results strictly confidential. Screening is not a moral statement; it is part of looking after yourself.
